From the world back to serving Mayo‑Tsanaga.
“I was born and raised in the mountains of Mayo-Moskota. Every day, I walked kilometers to school, carried by the dream of a better future. Boko Haram violence deeply affected my family: my grandfather was killed, my aunt lost her children, and my uncles were kidnapped and later killed in attacks that have lasted for 12 years. Despite these hardships, I refused an early marriage so that I could continue my education, believe in my ambitions and, above all, leave my home village to discover the world. My journey is one of resilience, courage, determination and conviction, but also of the hope my parents placed in me and the values they taught me: that great things can be achieved, no matter where one comes from, through hard work.”
My name is Yaoudam Rachel.
I was born in Moskota, in the Mayo-Tsanaga department, in the heart of Cameroon's Far North. I grew up in a region rich in culture and traditions, but facing many challenges: inadequate infrastructure, difficult access to education, youth unemployment and limited participation of women in public life.
From an early age, my family passed on values that continue to guide every commitment I make: hard work, courage, integrity and respect for our roots. My father often reminded me never to forget where I come from, no matter which road I take.
My journey took me from Cameroon to Nigeria and then to Europe. I pursued my studies, worked in education, collaborated with international organizations and gained professional experience in several countries. These experiences exposed me to other realities, helped me learn and allowed me to develop skills that can serve the development of our communities.
Despite the opportunities I encountered abroad, my heart has always remained turned toward my homeland and the people of Mayo-Tsanaga. I came to understand that a journey only truly has meaning when it enables us to help others and contribute to collective progress.
It is in this spirit that I created the association Sahel Solidaire 24, which works with vulnerable populations in regions affected by humanitarian crises in Cameroon. For several years, I have stood alongside women, young people and families who need to be heard, supported and given opportunities.
At the National Assembly, I want to defend the interests of our communities, promote youth empowerment, strengthen women's representation in political, media and public life, and support sustainable development for our communities.
I believe in a politics of proximity, grounded in listening, transparency and concrete action. I believe our department has immense potential. Together, we can build a future in which every young person has an opportunity, every woman can make her voice heard, and no village is left behind.
My commitment is simple: serve with sincerity, act responsibly and work with determination for the development of Mayo-Tsanaga North.
